TOP TEN REASONS TO ELECT PATTY REED

1.    Your child will be my #1 priority:  I will work to protect class size, get kids and teachers out of trailers, and expedite building renovations.

2.       Classroom experience: I spent years in the classroom as a teacher, teacher’s aide and tutor and will apply this unique understanding to all decisions.

3.       Budgeting experience:  I will apply over 20 years of experience managing budgets and evaluating programs to ensure that tax dollars are managed responsibly to gain the greatest “bang for the buck”.   

4.      Active parent advocate:  As a high school coordinator for FAIRGRADE, I helped rally the community for positive changes to the FCPS grading policy.

5.     Community leader:  I am current President, Friends of Oakton Library, where I have raised community funds to expand the library outdoors and fund services impacted by budget cuts.  I also run a non-profit that mentors women about education and leadership.

6.       Full-time availability:  I will devote all of my time to representing the best interests of constituents; I have no conflicts with day and evening sessions.

7.        Will challenge the status quo and encourage innovation: I am already asking tough questions, supporting independent reviews, and suggesting new ideas to keep FCPS a world-class school district.  

8.     Will improve communications with the public: I will restore public confidence by actively communicating with parents, teachers, advocacy groups and other stakeholders.

9.     Non-partisan: I am a career public servant, not a career politician and do not view this non-partisan position as a stepping stone to the Board of Supervisors. Politics do not belong in public education.

10.      Focused on education:  I am already “walking the talk” by attending School Board meetings, issuing press releases, and discussing issues with School Board members, constituent groups and school staff.
